Brief Description on the Wall System:
Basically, there are three different walls for the studio apartment; pine sheet wall, curtain wall and paver wall. Each wall has polystyrene insulation except the curtain wall. The connection between the wall to floor is quite simply as the standard construction method. The other detail is showing the connection between two internal walls by using slotting method with steel chanel as fixing.
This exercise involves researching and providing detailing design and resolution for the wall detailing of the Visiting Professors Studio Apartment that you have conceptually designed and includes the detailing of the wall system and its interaction with the floor and roof system and existing building.
AIMS:
- become familiar with the principles of alternative wall constructions and applications to non-domestic construction.

- understand the sequence of construction.
- familiarity of applicable Building Code Clauses.
- develop an understanding of common building failures and weatherproofing issues associated with alternative wall construction.
- develop an understanding of sound control issues, thermal insulation and fire rating associated with alternative wall construction.
