Welcome

Welcome to Ben's BBSC 303 Website.

This course explores the Craft of the Digital in Architecture and Building.

It uses the internet to document and assist the collaboration of two people collaborating in the construction of a 3D model of a significant recent daylit Art Gallery. It explores the role of global illumination (photon mapping) in the development of a design understanding of the interplay of light and shade under daylight as well as electric light.

The course is run by Michael Donn at the

Victoria University School of Architecture

The course consists of three projects:

· the cad exercise: The course commences with a 3 week skills exercise designed to provide an overview of the whole process necessary for completing Assignments One and Two. It provides an opportunity to compare and contrast the AutoCAD, Revit and ArchiCAD CAD programs' abilities at performing the same tasks and a not-for-credit opportunity to create a web page.

· assignment one: A major collaborative assignment crafting a digital model of a significant piece of architecture: Assignment One involves practical CAD work on computer. It develops students' abilities to make effective use of electronic modeling and rendering packages available in the School (AutoCAD and/or Revit and/or ArchiCAD plus Lightscape or 3DS Viz and Radiance rendering software).

· assignment two: A collaborative website design and craft assignment: Assignment Two involves constructing a web site for the management and sharing of electronic information about a building model, which familiarises us with the cad and rendering programs
