3 WEEK SKILLS EXCERCISE
In this Exercise we were required to build a (computer) model of a simple house, (dolls house) in two of the following three programs listed below. From these drawings we were then required to produce 6 rendered images, internal or external of the dolls house. We were also required to submit 2 extra views, one showing a scanned image used as a material in the Autocad program, the other the perspectively allignment of the dollshouse to a photograph using 'photmatch' in Microstation.
These images were then submitted 'online' in a Website that could be accessed through the R drive, BBSc 303, publish ,
Autocad
The aim of this exercise is to demonstrate some of the potential of AutoCAD, not to provide 'ultimate training' in every detail. It is also intended to familiarise and to encourage people to experiment for themselves with AutoCAD.
This exercise assumes that the user has some basic knowledge of AutoCAD and its interface, this includes:
an understanding of the use of layers an ability to use the layer control bar to change the current layer setting being able to undo or erase mistakes using zoom commands using the View tool bar to change to an isometric view pressing the space bar or the RIGHT mouse button is normally the same as pressing [RETURN] in the version of AutoCAD we have running.
ArchiCAD
The acrhiCAD software package was not operational during the 3 weeks that the exercise ran for, therefore it was not used as a drawing program in this exercise.
Microstation.
The aim of this exercise is to demonstrate some of the potential of Microstation, not to provide 'ultimate training' in every detail. It is also intended to familiarise and to encourage people to experiment for themselves with Microstation. The tutorial is not the only 'correct' way to create this model, there are many ways to achieve the same result.
This exercise assumes that the user has some basic knowledge of Microstation and its interface, this includes:
An understanding of the use of levels
An ability to use the level and colour buttons to change the current level settings
Being able to undo or erase mistakes
Using the zoom and the other view control buttons at the bottom left of each window
Using the ACCUDRAW system and tentative pick (pressing both mouse buttons at once to select an object or position in space) to place geometry precisely that holding down the left mouse button and dragging whilst pointing to a tool button allows it and its associated tools to be torn off and placed somewhere in drawing space where it will be available for use all the time.
"ACCEPT" is to pick or click with the left mouse button
"REJECT" or finish a command is to pick or click with the right mouse button.
If this does not describe your current knowledge of microstation, then it is suggested that you work your way through the on-line tutorials provided.
I used the Microstation and AutoCAD packages to draw the "doll house"
